Italian Hot Dish

1 lb. box ziti
1 (2 lb.) jar Ragu spaghetti sauce
1 lb. mozzarella cheese, sliced thin (1/4")
1 lb. ricotta
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. oregano spice


Prepare ziti according to package. Drain. Mix ricotta cheese, 1 egg, salt and oregano in bowl. Heat oven to 325 degrees. Use casserole dish approximately 9 x 12 inches. Spread a layer of Ragu sauce to cover bottom of casserole. Arrange ziti in casserole in layers, alternating with layer of sauce, ricotta cheese and mozzarella cheese until ziti is all used. Ziti covered with sauce only will be the top layer. (May sprinkle with 2 tablespoons grated Romano cheese if desired.) Cover casserole with aluminum foil and bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until mozzarella is melted and serve. Make 6 large or 8 medium servings. Serves 8-10.
